Canon Photomarathon 2009 is here!

Canon user? Check. Photo addict? Check. Would want to win photo gear? Check. If you're tickin' all of 'em, then we're sure you'll enjoy the Canon Photomarathon. It's a fun day, taking photos around a venue with hundreds of photographers.

It's going to be a whole day event on October 24 (Saturday) from 630 AM until 10PM. Pre-register online before October 12.

There are two categories plus a bonus category:
1. Point and shoot
2. EOS DSLR
3. Video DSLR and DV (bonus category)

For the prizes? Canon doesn't say yet. But we're sure they'll be giving out pretty fine stuff.

About the instructor:

Regie Fernando is a passionate photographer who loves photography and enjoys every single frame he takes. A graduate of BS in Architecture at the University Santo Tomas who followed his calling as a professional photographer. He normally shoots commercial works for various top companies and corporations in our country. He owns a studio in Pasig named imagesmith.

From landscape, portraits, events to still life his style of visual arts thru a camera can never be mistaken. Having taken almost all types of subjects makes him a skilled and versatile image-maker.

Regie is the founding chairman and past president of Pinoy Photography Organization (PiPho Org) he is also the founder and owner of the website www.pinoyphotography.org (PiPho). He also does reviews of photography gears for various companies.

Workshop Alert: FPPF's Cebu Photography Workshop


Photography's not just for people in Manila. For our shutter buddies in Cebu, you might be interested in FPPF's Basic Photography Workshop!

The Cebu Photography Workshop will be held on October 21-23, 2009 at the Sacred Heart Center, D. Jakosalem St., Cebu City.

The course content is similar to our regular Basic Photography, compressed in 3 consecutive weekdays — Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. Workshop fee is P5,500 per person, inclusive of meals and snacks for the 3-day seminar.

A team of FPPF mentors will hold the workshop. The team includes Ador Pamintuan, Prof. Joey TaƱedo, Dennis Araneta and Chris Malinao. The workshop will cover DSLR camera operation and handling, understanding ISO, aperture and shutter speed and how they relate to correct exposure, mastering depth of field, understanding how the camera meters, composition, elements of design, lighting theory and practice and a comprehensive introduction to the digital imaging workflow. The lessons will be full of hands-on exercises using the DSLR camera. The lighting session will simulate studio photography, complete with studio strobes, for the participants to have an in-depth understanding of lighting principles.

Workshop Alert: FPPF Advanced Photography Workshop

For those who are done with the basic photo taking, the advanced photography workshop provided by the FPPF might just the thing you need to push you to the next level!

The FPPF will be offering Advanced Photography on September 28 to October 2, 2009.
The course content for the special weekday sessions for Advanced Photography is as follows:

Day 1 – Morning: Theory of light. Light sources: one light, two lights, three lights, use of light modifiers, lighting ratio, modelling light and what it does for portrait use of mirrors and light modifiers like gobo, mirrors, cardboards, etc. How to light still life and portrait. For still life fruits demo; for portraits, participants as models.
Afternoon: Food photography with actual shoot of (select 2) sinigang, or fried chicken/pizza pie. (Two-light set ups only).

Day 2 – Fashion/glamour photography, available light shooting and studio lighting with 1 or 2 models

Day 3 – Wedding photography, how to shoot a bride, with available light in Fort Santiago and studio lighting inside chamber

Day 4 – Morning: Location shoot – Manila Zoo. Afternoon: downloading of images for critique and selection for photo essay presentation max 7 (5 x 7) photos

Day 5 – Presentation and evaluation of portfolio which shall consist of photos of food, wedding, glamour/fashion and photo essay on location shoot.
Awarding of certificates and a short program.
End of workshop.

Workshop fee is P6,500 for 5 full-day sessions; minimum of 8, maximum of 15 participants.
Fee includes:
• transpo and entrance fees to Manila Zoo/alternative venue with light lunch
• payment for models and make-up artists
• entrance fees to Fort Santiago
• props for food photography and professional fee to stylist, if needed.

Workshop Alert: Digital Light Workshop by Parc Cruz


For those who think that Photoshop is an essential to tool to enhance your photos, Camera Cart thinks you'll learn a lot of tips and tricks from this workshop. Oh and this event is in Bacolod.

Parc Cruz will be holding a post processing workshop entitled "Digital Light" on October 15, 2009 in preparation for the Masskara Festival 2009 to be held in Bacolod City.

The workshop will consist of the following topics:

- Finding the right light for your subject (Natural/ Available/ Ambient light shooting )
- Basic to Advanced Photoshop Tools
- Color in Photoshop - Image Manipulation
- Portrait Introduction, Post Processing (conservative and advanced manipulation)
- Landscape Introduction, Post Processing
- Digital Art, Advance Imaging
- Open Session about Photoshop

This workshop is designed for all level of Photoshop users, to let you explore and discover the capabilities of Adobe Photoshop for your personal use. You will learn about Photoshop Layers, Objects, Texts, Gradients, Adjustment Layers and so much more.

This workshop will also cover some advanced features of Photoshop. You will learn how to use Levels and Curves to correct color and tonal range, create Layer Masks and to use Brushes and Textures

The whole session is estimated to be 8 hours long (one whole day) and is designed to be flexible and informal. The workshop may also tackle other topics not in the outline that the participants would like to learn as long as Mr. Cruz knows that particular topic.
