Camera Cart Rental thinks you may want to join: Water is Life Photo Contest

This is the second run of the Water is Life Photo Contest. For those of you who think that their photos can say something to help out the environment, you may want to check this out:

For this year’s 2009 Water is Life Photo Contest, the objective is to raise public awareness on the causes and adverse impacts of climate change on water resources in the country.

All photography entries of this contest should visualize the causes and negative impacts of climate change on the country’s water resources. The following are examples of causes and adverse impacts of climate change on water resources:

•Agriculture and Aquaculture – examples include lower productivity, destruction of crops and irrigation systems due to shorter or absence of dry season, prolonged drought, flash floods and more intense forest wildfires which are all exacerbated by deforestation and poor watershed management, and decline in fish catch due to higher water temperature and destruction of mangroves due to higher salinity brought about by saltwater intrusion;

•Water Supply – examples include disruption of freshwater supply system and infrastructure due to low water flows during dry season, floods during wet season and saltwater intrusion and contamination of groundwater sources due to abnormal sea level rise;

•People’s Habitat - examples include destruction people’s habitat along river banks and other bodies of water due to floods and abnormal sea level rise; and

•Health and Sanitation – examples include increased prevalence of vector-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue due to warmer weather which provides breeding grounds for mosquitoes which are exacerbated by lack of sanitation facilities and polluted rivers and waterways.

Winning photographs of this contest will be announced during the final day of the Photo Exhibit of Finalists on October 2009 in a mall in Metro Manila. The specific date and venue will be announced later. Photographers whose entries were chosen as finalists will be invited to attend the opening of Photo Exhibit to personally unveil their works of art before the media and the public.
